On demand electronic grinder with conical blades
18g in 6 seconds - for up to 600 coffees a day
The Kony Electronic offers the same style of conical burrs, slower burr rotation, and programmable on-demand doser found in the larger Robur model, but in a smaller footprint. This makes it the perfect choice for anyone with limited space.
Many people love the conical burrs and low RPM (rotations per minute) of the Mazzer Robur, but don’t have the same production needs to warrant the larger machine. The Kony fills this gap perfectly by offering the same low RPM (500) and a smaller conical burr set (63 mm compared to the Robur’s 71mm). The low RPM ensures the coffee is exposed to less heat and therefore holds its freshness longer. The conical burrs are preferred by many baristas for preserving full, complex flavours during the grinding process.
The Mazzer Kony Electronic allows the barista to program a specific grind time for both a single and a double shot using the touch panel on top of the dosing chamber. The digital display on the panel shows your chosen shot time and keeps a record of the total shots grounded. The programmable single- and double-shot buttons can be set in 0.05-second increments. It grinds directly into your portafilter, minimising waste.
With a powerful 450W motor turning at a very low speed, this grinder is quiet and powerful. The large 63mm conical burrs grind the coffee beans quickly, while the patented stepless grinding mechanism allows infinite grind adjustment.
The superbly well-engineered Mazzer Kony sits above the Major in the range and, at this level, is expected to be purchased solely for commercial use. Mazzer grinders are particularly well-suited to busy coffee outlets where a Major model may be slightly overworked, but where a Robur can’t be justified. There are coffee houses all over the world that use the Mazzer Kony.
As with all Mazzer grinders, the infinite grind adjustment is more than capable of handling everything from a fine espresso to a coarse grind better suited to cafetieres. One of the biggest selling points for the Kony is the immensely powerful 450W motor that turns at an incredibly slow 500 rpm. This has two main benefits – firstly, the machine is surprisingly quiet in operation as the motor spins more slowly than in less powerful grinders. Secondly, it generates far less heat. Grinder manufacturers are making a lot of effort to reduce heat during grinding, as it can damage delicate flavours in some coffees. This isn’t a problem for the Kony, which delivers a perfect shot time after time.
The conical burrs are made from Swedish hardened steel and, within the industry, are considered among the best currently available, making them more durable than many competitors. The innovative design makes them very easy to calibrate and even easier to clean, should you need to access the burrs themselves. Of course, you can use cleaning crystals instead, which removes the need to clean the burrs directly.
