INDIGO VALLEY’S ECO-FRIENDLY APPROACH

Starting in 2018 – we set out to tackle our environmental impact one step at a time. We began by assessing each of the negative ecological impacts that coffee has from farm to cup – seeking to turn each step into a positive for the planet.

Then in 2022 – we had been sourcing, roasting and operating carbon neutral for over four years. From farm to cup, our coffees are ISO certified carbon neutral and we have achieved carbon negative certification for all our business operations. We believe we may be one of the only coffee suppliers in the UK to have accomplished this standard! Our customers can enjoy the added benefit of knowing their coffee is making a positive impact on the planet.

Aiming for 2025 – there’s still much more we can do. We have high hopes and are already incorporating coffee grown from Brazil’s most ethical and sustainable farm, we are also in conversation with all our partner producers to lead the way in making their coffee carbon negative too.

CARBON NEUTRAL COFFEE ROASTERS

For every 1kg of roasted coffee, up to 2.9kg of CO2e emissions are produced.

Before you even brew it, our favourite drink is responsible for producing a lot of nasty emissions. Drinking 3 cups of coffee per day can equate to 30kg of emissions per person each year.

Indigo Valley can effortlessly help reduce your carbon footprint by serving great tasting coffee without any of the guilt trip.

GREAT COFFEE WITH A GREAT IMPACT

Compared to other roasters, we actively capture, reduce and offset our coffee production and roasting emissions to be as planet friendly as possible.

Traditional drum roasters usually produce 80% of the total carbon emissions for the entire supply chain for every kilo of coffee sold.

For example, 1 tonne of drum roasted coffee would produce almost 3 tonnes of carbon emissions from farm to cup.

In comparison, by roasting our coffees in a modern convection roaster, we capture our emissions while roasting which makes the greatest impact on the whole supply chain. This alone saves hundreds of tonnes of emissions every year from reaching the atmosphere.

INDIGO VALLEY IS CARBON NEGATIVE

Our carbon negative status is externally audited and verified to ISO standards in partnership with Carbon Neutral Britain.

Our carbon neutral status covers Scopes 1, 2 and 3 of our coffees production. This includes farming, processing, international shipping, roasting and delivering to customers.

In addition, we investment extra into solar and wind power generation programs to achieve our carbon negative status.

By more than offsetting what we are unable to control ourselves, we make sure our impact on the planet is beyond balanced with United Nations Certified Emission Reductions (CER) programmes. This data is publicly published to provide complete transparency of the number of tons of CO2e that have been offset to achieve our carbon negative status.
