Kilenso Mokonisa Cooperative
Zesty, Silky, Citrus
Ethiopia, acknowledged as the birthplace of coffee, is one of the world’s largest coffee producers and the largest in Africa. The rich soil, its geographic diversity, and genotypic variety make Ethiopia unrivalled as a coffee origin.
The Sidamo region is one of three trademarked coffee regions in Ethiopia and is well known for having perfect climate conditions for coffee. Here the Ethiopian coffees grow more slowly and therefore have more time to absorb nutrients and develop more robust flavours. Grown in high altitudes of between 1,500 to 2,200 metres above sea level with more abundant rainfall, optimum temperatures and fertile soils produce the most ideal conditions.
The Kilenso Mokonisa cooperative currently has a round 360 small holder members. It is located in the Bule Hora ward in the Borena Zone near Hagermariam town. This cooperative is renowned for the quality lots produced by its members as well as their organic practices that means the farmers use fewer intensive agricultural inputs to maintain their coffee gardens.
